Summer Home Maintenance Checklist
As we all revel in the lingering warm weather, let’s not forget that while the summer sun is a great time to plan trips and spend as much time outdoors as possible, it’s also a great time to get a little maintenance done in and around your home. Add these tasks to your summer home maintenance checklist so you can enjoy your home well into the cooler months to come.
Refresh Your Landscaping
When spending time outdoors, you want to make sure you have a clean and organized place to play and entertain. Trim or cut any overgrown shrubs or branches. Tend to your garden and pluck out or spray weeds around any flowers. While you’re at it, take inventory of any plants that didn’t make it through the season. Replace unhealthy plants with new, healthier ones to keep your plant life thriving. Summer is also a great time to get back on a routine mowing schedule.
Wash Exterior Surfaces
Dirt and grime can build up on your home from season to season. Take the time to wash windows and siding. Power wash your driveway, sidewalks, and decks. Be sure to carefully consider the surface before power washing. Using it on things like siding can damage the surface if you don’t take the proper precautions.
Eliminate Bug Breeding
Bees, wasps, and ants love warmer weather just as much as you do, but you may not want them hanging around at the next pool party. Locate any breeding spots in or around the home, and take the necessary steps to eliminate them or control the breeding activity.
Prep Outdoor Furniture and Grill
If you plan on entertaining or just want a cozy outdoor living space to enjoy on your own, don’t forget to prep your furniture and grill. Clean and stage your furniture for optimal relaxation. Clean and test your grill so it’s ready for the most skilled grill master.
Adjust Ceiling Fans
Don’t forget to change the direction of your ceiling fans during warmer weather. Turn the blades so that they spin counterclockwise, creating a downdraft to cool the space. While changing the direction of the blades, this is also a great time to dust them and tighten any blades that aren’t secure.
Look for Air Leaks
Search out any possible ways air could be seeping out around windows and doors. Caulk any cracks or weather strip your doors. Taking action will help reduce wasted energy.
Perform Pool Maintenance
Clean out any debris that may have collected inside your pool. Clean and check your filter daily as well. Make sure any pool accessories like railings or ladders are securely attached. For more items to address on your pool opening checklist, Click Here.
